Born in Venezuela, raised in Texas and trained in New York, Nelson Gonzalez is the newly appointed Chef de Cuisine at The Clock Tower inside the Edition Hotel in New York City’s Flatiron District. Chef Nelson honed his skills in classical European techniques over a decade of working at Michelin-starred kitchens across New York City. From 1-Michelin-starred Mediterranean seafood restaurant Aureole to 1-Michelin-starred Ai Fiori by celebrated chef Michael White, Chef Nelson created a new standard for American-Italian fine dining in the heart of the bustling metropolis.
Prior to joining the team at Starr Restaurant Group’s, The Clock Tower, Nelson worked in Hong Kong, at the helm the kitchen of Al Molo, Chef Michael White’s first off-shoot Italian venture in Hong Kong. He then moved on to head New York restaurateur Mario Carbone’s only foreign outpost in Hong Kong, the ever-popular Carbone as Chef de Cuisine. Lastly, Chef Nelson took command of the British-American concept Kinship, where he received numerous awards for his creative use of classical techniques in combination with international flavors. Throughout his career, Chef Nelson has kept his style simple, elegant and above all, seasonal. He draws inspiration from his favorite foods, travel experiences, and growing up in a household surrounded by his Spanish family’s cooking, which consisted of traditional Mediterranean ingredients and fresh seafood.
